Meet Your Clinton, NC Dentist: Dr. John Duthie

Dr. John Duthie ( Dr. John) believes that a great smile starts with a great conversation. Having mastered the art of patient-centered care, he’s still learning the ropes of coastal living. After two decades of running a successful orthodontic practice in upstate New York, Dr. John and his wife, Bridget, are thrilled to leave behind the snowy New York winters and call North Carolina home.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed advanced residencies in Orthodontics and Orofacial orthopedics at the University of Rochester’s Eastman Dental Center. Before entering a career in orthodontics, Dr. John served as a U.S. Naval Warfare Officer with combat experience during the Persian Gulf War and was a college Division I All-American lacrosse player. These experiences helped shape his core values of teamwork, discipline, and leadership—principles he brings to every patient interaction…and into his relentless DIY home improvement projects. While he is an expert at straightening teeth, his drywalling skills remain a “work in progress,” much to his family’s amusement.
Whether he’s discussing a complex orthodontic case or telling a bad “Dad” joke, Dr. John is known for his approachable, talkative style and his genuine respect for every patient who walks through the door. Despite a career filled with professional milestones, Dr. John’s greatest achievement is his family. He and his wife, Bridget, are incredibly proud of their three children, who are now carving out their own paths in New York City, Chicago, and Newport Beach, California.
